In recent months, known greenhouse vegetable operations worldwide have publicly announced 201 new project/funding plans in 35 countries. The total planned area of these projects is 4163 ha. (10,287 ac.). Sixty of the projects are in the USA, located in 32 states. The total USA planned area is 642 ha. (1586 ac.), which, if completed, would be more than a 70 percent increase to the current USA greenhouse vegetable area. In Canada, 14 new announced projects have been found, totaling 253 ha. (625 ac.). That would be a 16% increase in total Canadian greenhouse vegetable area. Mexico, the third member of North America, has announced nine new proposed projects for 332 ha. (820 ac.), a 10 percent increase in total area.
Among other countries reporting new projects is The Netherlands with 12 planned projects covering 287 ha. (709 ac.) and Russia, with the largest new proposed area of 1000 ha. (2500 ac.) from 23 new projects. For Russia this is a 34 percent increase in currently known greenhouse vegetable area, and three times what was projected for last year. China has announced plans for 450 ha. (1110 ac.) on five projects, a five percent increase in plastic greenhouses. Australia has reported 14 new projects for 385 ha. (952 ac.)
All of these individually listed proposed projects have been tabulated with the country and state/province for the USA and Canada, company name, greenhouse area, website, and the contact links for each project (email address or phone number as available). The internet web links usually also include additional data such as mailing address, business details, etc. This information should be of interest to greenhouse suppliers as well as those growers considering new or expansion projects.
