With the introduction of its new Grab & Go Salad Kits, Local Bounti has become the first indoor grower to offer salad kits with chicken.
“Our Grab & Go Salad Kits were introduced to the market to bring consumers chef-inspired, ready-to-eat salads offering a convenient, healthy and delicious meal option with superior freshness,” says Aaron Sumption, senior vice president of sales for Local Bounti.
Meeting consumer demand
According to Sumption, salad kits with chicken were in high demand from Local Bounti’s customers. “As such, we added Artisanal Chicken Caesar and Memphis Style BBQ Chicken to our existing Grab & Go Salad Kit line, both featuring premium, antibiotic-free chicken.”
To come up with these flavors, Local Bounti listened to the wants and desires of its consumers, leveraging research data to inform the company’s product development. “We pursued R&D in lockstep with our chef partners to arrive at something new and improved relative to what exists in the market today,” says Sumption.
Artisanal Chicken Caesar is “an immensely popular flavor,” says Sumption, while Memphis Style BBQ Chicken is a “Local Bounti spin on a BBQ salad” with bold flavors.
These flavors have indeed been popular with consumers, with Sumption saying that “reception of our new Grab & Go Salad Kits has been great.”
Sustainable and healthy
Local Bounti’s mission “to nourish mankind and protect the planet” applies to every level of its business. It’s important to Local Bounti, Sumption says, that these new products fall in line with that mission.
“We employ the highest standard of food safety,” Sumption says, “and that includes partnering with providers that have equally high standards for their product, which is why it is important for us to feature premium, antibiotic-free chicken in our Grab & Go Salad Kits.”
Looking forward
What can consumers look forward to from Local Bounti in the future? Sumption says the company is planning to further expand their salad kit offerings, saying, “We are very excited about the future of our Grab & Go Salad Kit line, and we look forward to continuing to listen to our consumers as this line evolves.”
Also important to the company’s plans for the future is the recent appointment of new CEO Anna Fabrega. Fabrega has over two decades of experience working in consumer goods, operations and food production. This experience includes having previously served as the CEO of Freshly, a direct-to-consumer fresh prepared food subscription service, and an executive at Amazon, leading the Amazon Go and Amazon Kitchen teams. Speaking about what the future of Local Bounti looks like under Fabrega, Sumption is excited for what’s to come.
“Given Fabrega’s extensive executive and business development experience with companies like Amazon and Freshly, we are excited for her to lead Local Bounti as we continue to grow the business and expand our offerings to new markets,” he adds.
