
According to an article posted by the Democrat and Chronicle on May 6, Green Empire Farms has become the epicenter for the novel coronavirus in Madison County and its neighbor, Oneida County. As reported on that date, 128 workers were diagnosed with the virus, and caused a spike in the area's cases which was 51 on Friday, April 1. Two workers from Green Empire Farms were hospitalized and Gov. Andrew Cuomo compared the greenhouse concern with the spread found at meat-packaging plants across the country.
Due to the massive greenhouse outbreak, Madison County worked with the New York State Department of Health to set up a testing site at the greenhouse. The updated cases were reported Friday, May 8 and can be found here.
