Gene Hurst, the founder of Hurst Boiler & Welding Company, Inc., has passed away.
Hurst opened his first shop in 1967 with his wife and partner Edna. In 1970 he opened Hurst Boiler & Welding in Coolidge, Georgia. Over more than four decades, the company has manufactured solid waste, gas, coal and oil fired steam and hot water boilers and related equipment.
Hurst Boiler is one of the largest employers in Coolidge and Thomasville, Ga. and the company's boilers and equipment are used in every state and several foreign countries. The organization recently completed construction on a major addition to its facility, bringing the total size of its manufacturing site to 314,000 square feet.
"We lost one of the greatest men to ever live, a man adored by many, a man of true character, a man that meant so much to so many...my hero, best friend and my grandfather," said Chad Fletcher, Hurst's grandson and director of aftermarket parts and sales for Hurst Boiler.
